EOS Gravity

The heavier member of the family. A gold chain curtain falls below the porcelain body — hence the name.

The piece

Gravity works where a room is tall but not wide: lift lobbies, entrances, stairwells. The chain curtain is not ornament but mass — it pulls the fitting down to eye level and scatters the light as the chains overlap.

The material

The body is perforated Zsolnay porcelain in green-gold eosin glaze — the same technique as the rest of the family. The chain curtain is stained aluminium, cut to length; the ceiling ring is brass.

Where to see it

This is the piece in the lift lobbies of the hotel in Opatija; along the corridors the slimmer EOS Slim runs in a row.

The chain

The chains are stained aluminium, made by Krisika Dekor in Spain. We do not draw their line: the chain takes its curve from its own weight — the catenary Gaudí worked with in his experimental models. They start at the ring, pass the body, and gather again beneath it.

Assembly

A ceiling ring, an inner chain cylinder, the porcelain body, then the outer chain curtain — in that order. The ring is the visible structure; everything else hangs from it.

Assembly: ring, inner chain cylinder, body, outer curtain.

Colour

Chain and body are specified separately, which puts the fitting at either end of the palette. Shown here: black, gold, white, blue, magenta, burgundy and green.
